We can place the high stool to the left near the front of the venue or at the back of the venue. The position at the front is backed by a dog-leg of two walls with a soundproofed blocked-in large pub window on one side.

Respite space: If you have need of a respite space, either go to the chill out bar or the beer garden or if you need a moment more secluded you can ask security or box office staff for access to the box office. Or you can speak to a bar manager on shift if it is a free gig with no box office.
Equality and Diversity
Hootananny aims to ensure equality and diversity at the venue
- We will not tolerate behaviour which makes customers, staff or acts feel unsafe
- We schedule staff training in equality, diversity and inclusivity in the workplace
- We programme diverse Acts and invite a diverse audience
Dog Friendly
Hootananny is a dog friendly pub in the beer garden and the pub bar. We are also a live music venue with a second bar, which can be loud and busy particularly at weekends. So on busy nights after 9pm we ask that dogs are taken home. All assistance dogs are welcome.

Venue Not for Profit
On October 12, 2023 Hootananny Brixton Venue CIC was incorporated with Companies House. It is a not-for-profit social enterprise that is owned and operated by its members for the benefit of the local community in Lambeth and the surrounding areas. Our admission charges cover both the show costs and the performer fees. Any surplus generated from events promoted by the CIC beyond that goes towards enhancing the local grassroots music scene, as per our objects. Please note that as a not-for-profit organisation we benefit from cultural exemption of VAT on any admission charges to live music events, further supporting our community purpose. The pub and backpackers hostel remain a Ltd company.
Cloakroom
We have a cloakroom every Friday and Saturday night from October 1, and on some midweek gigs if they are booked out.
SAFER SPACE
Hootananny aims to create a safer space
- We will not tolerate behaviour which makes customers, staff or acts feel unsafe
- If anyone on the premises feels unsafe we invite them to communicate this to our security and staff to ensure offending customers, staff or musicians asked to leave
- We are part of the Ask for Angela scheme; Ask for Angela is there to help vulnerable people, primarily women, in public places. If you go to the bar and ask for ‘Angela’ the bar staff will know you need help getting out of your situation and will call you a taxi or help you out discreetly – without too much fuss
- We have had training with the Campaign for Good Night Out so that we can better understand, respond to, and prevent sexual harassment and assault in our spaces
